This is the first car without a rear window that you will see very soon. Its name is Polestar 4, and a unique technique has been used to provide visibility to the rear instead.
This has been implemented by Volvo’s car brand as they got rid of the back window to make more space above your head. Instead, they put a camera that has a fancy screen instead of a regular rear-view mirror. It shows a live video from a camera on the roof.
It promised drivers a “special experience” and a clearer look at the road behind them.
The upcoming SUV will be the brand’s speediest electric model. The top version can go from 0 to 62mph in just 3.8 seconds and has a maximum speed of 124mph.
The Polestar 4 runs on a 400V lithium-ion battery, holding 102kWh (usable 94kWh). At the start, you can choose between two ‘Long Range’ versions – one with motors on both axles or another with a single motor on the rear axle.
A reporter shared with Myelectricsparks: “Car rear windows are shrinking as people prefer curvier designs. This poses a challenge, as the window gets smaller, and there’s a need for more headroom.”
“Volvo did something smart by ditching the back window and giving us this fresh perspective.
“The car’s been in China since December, and so far, people seem to like it.
“The idea is, I believe, it actually provides a better view because the camera is high definition, covers a wider area, and you can see more compared to that dirty rear window.”
