Mercedes-Benz, the fancy German car brand, is putting Rs 200 crore into India this year. They’re not just sitting around either – they’re rolling out more than a dozen new cars, and get this: some of them are electric!
For 2024, Mercedes-Benz India has big plans. They’re bringing out more than 12 new vehicles, and guess what? Three of them are electric. And here’s the cool part – about half of these new rides will be in the fancy, top-end category. So, if you’re feeling fancy and have around Rs 1.5 crore to spare, you might find your dream car among them!
And along with this, many new job opportunities will also emerge in India. Furthermore, these investments will be for manufacturing operations, new product startups, and the digitization of the manufacturing process.
In 2023, Mercedes set a new sales record in India by selling 17,408 cars, marking a 10% increase from the previous year, 2022.
Santosh Iyer, Mercedes-Benz India’s Managing Director and CEO, previously mentioned that expanding the charging infrastructure and educating customers about the technology would contribute to the overall growth of electric car adoption in the country.
He also observed a shift in customer preferences, with an increasing number opting for higher-priced trims across the entire product range, a trend that wasn’t as prominent in the past.
In the top 7-8 cities in India, the penetration for luxury cars has already crossed 2 percent, and it’s a matter of time before the rest of the country also catches.
Also, Mercedes will now open production points in every city so they will need many engineers. This is very good news for India.
