We’ve heard rumors about WhatsApp adding a feature to turn voice messages into text many times before. But now, it seems like they’re making progress on it. The messaging app has started working on converting voice messages once again.
The team at WABetaInfo has spotted the feature once more in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for both iOS and Android. This is great news for users on both platforms, as sometimes it takes a while for new features to reach one platform from the other.
As you might guess, this feature allows you to change voice messages into text, which can save a lot of time for many people. We all know someone who sends long voice messages, sometimes longer than phone calls. Being able to read these messages as text could save a ton of time. Plus, there are times when it’s noisy or you’re listening to music on your phone, making it hard to hear voice messages properly. Being able to read them instead would be super helpful.
According to a screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will download about 150 MB of app data to enable transcripts. The app also explains that it will use your device’s speech-recognition abilities for this feature and assures users that it will remain end-to-end encrypted so don’t be scared if it asks for permission.
There isn’t a specific date for when this feature will be released yet, but since it’s already in the latest beta version, it shouldn’t be too long before it’s available for everyone on the stable version of WhatsApp. We suggest keeping your app updated to make sure you get all the newest features.
