Philips has made a cool new smart lock, and guess what? No keys or codes are needed – just use your hand!
They recently showcased their Wi-Fi Palm Recognition Smart Deadbolt at CES 2024, priced at $359.99, and will go on sale in the US early this year. This smart lock has a built-in palm scanner that opens the door when it recognizes your unique palm print.
Easy peasy!
The new deadbolt is becoming part of Philips’ smart lock family for home security. You can connect and control it using the Philips Home Access app, even from a distance. Just hop on your smart home assistants like Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. Plus, it’s got built-in Wi-Fi, making it a breeze to connect with other smart gadgets. Easy peasy, right?
While big players like Amazon have already delved into palm-scanning tech for payments and age verification, Philips stands out as the primary company integrating this feature into its smart locks. The concept feels even more futuristic compared to fingerprint-scanning or digital key locks. However, it might face tough competition from Lockly’s facial recognition smart lock, unveiled at CES this year.
What sets Philips apart is that their palm-scanning lock also functions as a doorbell. It features a bell button beneath its keypad that, when pressed, sends a notification to your phone via the Philips mobile app. Additionally, there’s a wireless doorbell chime included, letting you hear when someone is at your door.
On the inside, the device uses proximity sensors to detect when you’re reaching for the door knob. It automatically unlocks as you reach to open the door and locks when you leave. The smart lock is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, allowing you to use voice commands for control.
Philips plans to release its Wi-Fi Palm Recognition Smart Deadbolt in the first half of 2024, offering it in satin nickel and matte black.
