A Canadian aircraft technician has created a strange but beautiful machine that looks like a real helicopter but is a Volkswagen bus. Chuck Jurgen Teschke, a man with almost 40 years of experience in aircraft maintenance, built the helicopter-shaped vehicle just for fun. Even though it cannot fly, people across the internet are calling it a “work of art.”
Chuck, who lives in Alberta, Canada, has worked with aircraft for most of his life. This time, he wanted to try something new and exciting by combining a Volkswagen T1 Bus with parts from a scrapped Airbus H125 helicopter. The result is a one-of-a-kind piece that looks like it could take off any minute even though it never will.
Chuck said, “It was just for fun. I’ve worked on aircraft for decades. I wanted to see what would happen if I mixed two of my favorite things—vintage cars and helicopters.”
The project began with a rough plan based on the Airbus H125. He searched for a helicopter that had already been taken apart and no longer worked. Then, he found an old and damaged Volkswagen Bus. Neither vehicle was in good condition, but that made them perfect for a fun and creative build.
Merging the two machines was not easy. The rear of the helicopter had to be joined with the front of the bus. Chuck used his years of knowledge and skill to make the two very different vehicles fit together.

To make it look even more real, he added big headlights and extra windows on the roof. He also gave it a fresh two-tone paint job with red pinstripes, making it look stylish and professional.
The VW Bus lost its sliding doors during the transformation, but the inside of the vehicle still has plenty of space. Chuck painted the front bumper white to match the helicopter’s landing skids. Although the rotor blades are not installed yet, the vehicle already looks like a real helicopter.
Even though it looks like it could fly, it won’t be leaving the ground. Physics, safety rules, and aviation laws make it impossible for this helicopter to take off. But Chuck never planned to fly it. He just wanted something that would look cool and be fun to build.
“One guy asked if I could take him for a ride,” Chuck laughed. “I had to break it to him—it’s strictly for the backyard.”

His Instagram is full of people praising his work. One person wrote, “This is a work of art! Would be a hit at any airshow.” Another added, “So cool! Even if it doesn’t fly, it’s one of the most creative builds I’ve ever seen.”
This isn’t Chuck’s first strange build. This is actually the fourth creation in what he calls his “Frankencopter” series. In one of his past projects, he used the front of a tractor and combined it with helicopter parts to create what he calls “the most overqualified piece of yard art in agricultural history.”
The Volkswagen Bus, also known as the Type 2 or T1, is one of the most famous vans in history. Today, many are restored and used as campervans. But Chuck chose a different path—he turned his into a helicopter, a flying machine that can’t fly.
He plans to add the rotor blades once the vehicle can be moved out of the garage. For now, it sits in his yard in Alberta, getting attention from neighbors and starting conversations at backyard barbecues.
“I might take it to some airshows as a static display,” Chuck said. “People already think it flies. That alone makes it worth the effort.”
