How Much Money Is on the Table

The sums are serious. Applicants can claim up to €84,000, about $92,000, to restore homes that have sat derelict for years. Vacant properties in better shape qualify for up to €60,000, around $67,000. The money covers heavy structural repairs as well as the basic upgrades a house needs to become livable.

The scheme builds on an earlier Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant that paid roughly $55,000. This island version pays more because building on a remote island costs more. Ireland hands over real money. For lovers of peace, nature, and a slower rhythm, this could be a dream opening. But only those ready to commit to island living should pack their bags, because the grants reward staying power, not sightseeing.
