Xiaomi has officially launched its second electric car, the YU7 SUV, at an event in Beijing. Just three minutes after the sale began, Xiaomi announced it had already received over 200,000 orders for the new vehicle. This makes the YU7 one of the fastest-selling electric cars in China’s history.
The YU7 SUV starts at 253,500 yuan, which is about $35,300. This price is nearly 10,000 yuan, or $1,400, cheaper than Tesla’s Model Y, making it a strong competitor in the growing electric vehicle market.
Customers in China were given the option to book the car with a refundable deposit of 5,000 yuan, or $700. For those wanting faster delivery, Xiaomi also offered the option to pay 20,000 yuan upfront, which secured priority for cars that were already close to being ready for delivery.
At the launch event, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun proudly stated, “Tesla previously said, ‘Go ahead and compare,’ and we at Xiaomi just won’t accept defeat. Today we officially take up Tesla’s invite to compare.”
Lei Jun also said the demand for the YU7 is expected to be three times higher than that of the SU7 sedan, which was launched in March 2024. That car received nearly 90,000 orders in its first 24 hours and went on to deliver more than 272,000 units by May 2025. Since SUVs are far more popular than sedans in China, with a sales ratio of around three to one, the YU7 is expected to do even better.

The YU7 is available in three versions: Standard, Pro, and Max. All of them are built on Xiaomi’s Modena platform and feature advanced technology, long range, and fast-charging capabilities.
The car has five seats and is designed for both comfort and performance. Xiaomi’s high-speed 800V charging system can power the battery from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes. In only 15 minutes, it can deliver up to 620 kilometers of range.
The Standard version of the YU7 has a rear-wheel drive setup, an 830-kilometer range, and a 96.3 kWh battery. It can go from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.88 seconds. The Pro version has all-wheel drive with more power and a slightly shorter range of 770 kilometers.
The Max version is the most powerful, with 681 horsepower, 866 Nm of torque, and acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.23 seconds. It uses a stronger 101.7 kWh battery and has a 760-kilometer range.

The YU7 comes with advanced features inside the cabin, including a clean and modern dashboard, in-car phone charging, and smart connectivity. With a size of 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,608 mm in height, and a 3,000 mm wheelbase, it offers plenty of space for families and long trips.
Just hours after the launch, Xiaomi’s Weibo page shared that the total orders had surpassed 289,000. This overwhelming response also boosted Xiaomi’s stock. The company’s share price in Hong Kong rose 8% to a record high. It closed the day with a 3.6% increase.
Edison Lee from Jefferies said, “YU7’s pricing is slightly below that of Tesla Model Y, but it offers much better specs and performance. Model Y is the main target of YU7, and we expect YU7 would be able to take market share from Model Y.”
