Sony has unveiled its latest innovation—a futuristic wearable air conditioner designed to provide personalized climate control. The “Reon Pocket 5,” released on April 23, offers a high-tech solution for staying cool and comfortable on the go. This cutting-edge device aims to revolutionize personal cooling and heating, providing a versatile alternative to traditional methods like hand fans.
The Reon Pocket 5 is not just any wearable gadget; it is a sophisticated climate control system that fits neatly into the back of your shirt. Utilizing a thermo module and an array of sensors—including temperature, humidity, and motion sensors—the device determines the optimal temperature for the wearer. This smart technology promises to keep users comfortable whether they’re in a crowded train or a chilly airplane cabin.
Sony’s latest innovation boasts five cooling levels for hot days and four warming levels for cooler environments. The device can be paired with the included Reon Pocket Tag, a small wearable sensor that enhances the device’s performance by providing comprehensive environmental data. This tag allows the Reon Pocket 5 to adjust temperatures proactively, ensuring maximum comfort.
For those who prefer a more hands-on approach, the Reon Pocket 5 can be controlled through the new Reon Pocket App, available on both iOS and Android platforms. This app allows users to adjust the five cooling and four warming levels via Bluetooth, making it easy to fine-tune the device settings on the go. Additionally, the device offers an impressive 17 hours of battery life on a single charge, making it perfect for long hikes or extended outdoor activities.
While the Reon Pocket series is not entirely new—having debuted in Japan in 2019—the Reon Pocket 5 marks Sony’s first major push into global markets. The previous versions saw significant success in Asian markets such as Hong Kong. Now, with the Reon Pocket 5, Sony is expanding its reach to include the UK and other countries, making the innovative device accessible to a broader audience.

Pre-orders for the Reon Pocket 5 are now open on Sony’s website, priced at £139 (approximately $170 or AU$260). These pre-orders will begin shipping on May 15. The base package, known as the “Reon 5T,” includes the device, a Reon Pocket Tag, and a white neckband. For those looking for a touch of style, a beige neckband is available for an additional £25.
The Reon Pocket 5 is designed to blend seamlessly with both business and casual attire. It comes with two types of air vent covers one that extends to the height of the collar for a business look and another that is shorter for a casual style. Both designs ensure efficient airflow, keeping the wearer comfortable in any setting.
As temperatures continue to rise globally, finding effective ways to stay cool has become more critical than ever. Traditional air conditioners, while effective, can lead to significant spikes in electricity bills. Sony’s Reon Pocket 5 offers an innovative solution to this problem, providing a personal cooling system that is both energy-efficient and highly portable.

Additionally, it operates quietly, making it suitable for use in quiet business environments.
Sony’s latest model will soon be available in several countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom. This marks a significant step for Sony as it brings its innovative personal climate control technology to a global audience.
In a press release, Sony stated, “REON POCKET 5 features an enlarged thermo-module and newly structured heat dissipation fan which offers improved cooling efficiency and airflow. Featuring 5 COOL Levels, the device delivers powerful cooling and runs for up to 1.8 times longer. In addition, the latest device functions quietly by reducing operating noise, making it convenient to use even in quiet business environments.”
