One of the year’s best budget phones is finally available unlocked in the US. The OnePlus Nord N20 5G launched as a T-Mobile exclusive in April, and that was the only way to get ahold of one — until now.
What’s new with this unlocked model? It’s the same phone available through T-Mobile, without the carrier’s apps or other tweaks. Notably, this is not a device that works universally across all US carriers. OnePlus notes that the device is compatible with the following networks.
- T-Mobile & Metro by T-Mobile – 5G
- Google Fi, Mint Mobile, Ultra Mobile, and Simple Mobile – 5G
- Telus (Canada) – 5G
- AT&T, Cricket, and Tracfone – 4G LTE
Interestingly, OnePlus is selling the device without support for AT&T’s 5G network, but it’s not entirely surprising either. Verizon customers also cannot use the device, which is a shame.
OnePlus is launching the Nord N20 through Mint Mobile today directly, but you can also buy the unlocked model and use it with the carrier.
Recapping, the OnePlus Nord N20 launched on April 19 with a sub-$300 price tag and a mid-range spec sheet. The device has a 6.4-inch FHD AMOLED display at 60Hz, and an under-display fingerprint scanner. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 695 processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. There’s a 4,500 mAh battery with 33W fast charging and a microSD card slot. The rear camera setup includes a 64MP primary camera backed up by monochrome and macro shooters, and there’s a hole-punch selfie camera on the front.
Nord N20 5G Is Available Unlocked In Canada Too
The Nord N20 5G is available in the U.S. and on the Canadian website. It retails at CA$379. OnePlus offers a 20% discount on Nord Buds when purchased with the Nord N205G. The earbuds cost $39/CA$49. Those who take advantage of the discount can buy them for $31.78/CA$39.
Nord N20 5G features a 6.43-inch AMOLED display with a 2,400 x 1,080 pixels resolution. The display has a 60Hz refresh rate, and there’s a hole for a 16MP camera. Under the hood is a Snapdragon 695 processor, 6GB RAM, and 128GB storage. This can be expanded with a MicroSD card slot. The maximum storage capacity is 512GB, which should be sufficient for most users. It has a triple camera array at the back, which includes a 64MP primary camera, a macro camera, and a monochrome camera. Unfortunately, it is easy to see only one camera in the back.
OnePlus has added face unlock to the phone and an under-display fingerprint reader. However, the latter will provide more reliable security. The phone has a 4,500mAh internal battery and charges 33W. OnePlus ships its Nord N20 with a USB-C cable and a 33W power adapter, unlike Samsung’s mid-range Galaxy A53 5. G. The Nord N20 also features NFC, Bluetooth 5.1, and dual-band Wi-Fi. It also supports sub-6GHz Wi-Fi networks. The OnePlus Nord 20 5G is compatible
