Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Generation 2 yesterday. So we already have one of the first smartphones to use it. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be used by the OnePlus 11.

OnePlus has confirmed via Weibo that the OnePlus 11 will be the “first” to feature the Snapdragon 8 Generation 2. Although it needs to be clarified if this device will be the first smartphone to use Qualcomm’s new chip technology, it will be the first OnePlus.

The teasers aren’t available, but, notably, the device is called the “OnePlus 11” instead of the “OnePlus 11 Pro.” This could signify that OnePlus is renaming the device after last year’s decision to launch the OnePlus 10 Pro but never officially launching a “OnePlus 10”. The closest we got was with the OnePlus 10T, which was a completely different device.

According to a rumor circulated earlier in the year, OnePlus could release the OnePlus 11 in some capacity before the end of 2022. This is a massive leap from the schedule – The OnePlus 10 Pro was launched in China in January and arrived worldwide in March.

Leaks also showed off a “OnePlus 11 Pro” design, which features a circular camera module and a familiar layout (as pictured above).

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was announced today with a new layout and Arm’s new Cortex X3 cores. Wi-Fi 7 support is also available. In addition, there are other significant upgrades and a focus on power efficiency.
