Lamborghini has unveiled the first details of its highly anticipated Huracán successor, and the automotive world is buzzing. The new supercar, potentially named “Temerario,” will be powered by a groundbreaking 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, capable of delivering an astonishing 789 horsepower and revving up to an eye-watering 10,000 RPM. This powertrain represents a significant leap forward for the iconic Italian automaker, combining raw power with cutting-edge hybrid technology.
The headline-grabbing feature of Lamborghini’s new V-8 engine is its extraordinary 10,000 RPM redline. This figure is remarkable for any engine, let alone a turbocharged one, positioning it among the highest-revving engines in the industry. Only a handful of hypercars, such as the Mercedes-AMG One, Aston Martin Valkyrie, and Gordon Murray Automotive’s T.33 and T.50, achieve similar rev ranges.
This 4.0-liter engine is not just about high revs. It produces 789 horsepower between 9,000 and 9,750 RPM and generates 538 pound-feet of torque between 4,000 and 7,000 RPM. This flat-plane crank V-8, Lamborghini’s first, features a “hot-vee” configuration with the turbochargers nestled between the cylinder banks. This setup is complemented by a dry-sump lubrication system and direct fuel injection, ensuring optimal performance and reliability under extreme conditions.
Innovative Engineering
To achieve such high revs, Lamborghini has employed several advanced engineering techniques. The V-8 engine boasts titanium connecting rods, which are lighter and stronger than traditional materials, reducing the engine’s rotational mass. Additionally, Lamborghini has replaced conventional bucket-and-shim tappets with rigid finger followers, a design more commonly found in racing engines and high-performance motorcycles. This valvetrain setup allows for the precise control necessary to reach the engine’s lofty redline.

The Huracán successor also incorporates a sophisticated hybrid system. Paired with the V-8 engine is an electric motor producing 147 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, mounted between the engine and the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. This axial-flux motor, known for its compactness and efficiency, enhances the car’s performance without adding significant weight or bulk.
Hybrid Powertrain
Lamborghini has confirmed that the new supercar will feature a three-motor hybrid system, likely similar to the setup in the Revuelto. While specific details are sparse, it is expected that the hybrid system will include motors for each front wheel, providing all-wheel drive and additional power. This hybrid configuration will not only boost performance but also improve efficiency and reduce emissions, aligning with Lamborghini’s commitment to a more sustainable future.
The new V-8 engine is already proving its mettle on the racetrack. Lamborghini is using a variant of this engine in its SC63 LMDh prototype, albeit with a 3.8-liter displacement and a different hybrid system. This racing experience is invaluable, ensuring that the engine is tested and refined under the most demanding conditions before it makes its way into the road-going supercar.

Visually, the new Lamborghini supercar will adhere to the brand’s iconic design language while introducing modern enhancements. Expect to see sharp lines, slim headlights, deep side air intakes, and a distinctive double-bubble roof. A high-mounted, single exhaust tailpipe will provide a unique visual and acoustic signature.
Lamborghini has kept the exact specifications and final design under wraps, but the company has confirmed that the official unveiling will take place in August. The new model, codenamed “634,” is set to surpass the Huracán in both performance and driving emotion, offering an unparalleled driving experience.
