The Kia EV6 GT has shocked the world by beating Ferrari’s $395,000 Purosangue in a drag race, proving that electric SUVs are no longer just about efficiency but can also deliver incredible performance. The race, organized by Carwow, saw the $65,000 Kia outperform the luxury Italian supercar in three out of four runs, leaving many viewers stunned.
The British YouTube channel Carwow hosted the event, which quickly went viral. Many expected Ferrari’s Purosangue, with its V12 engine and iconic brand power, to easily dominate. But reality played out differently on the track as the Kia EV6 GT used its instant electric torque to surge ahead, leaving the Ferrari struggling to keep pace.
During the second run, the driver of the Purosangue could not hide his frustration as he exclaimed, “Why is this vehicle doing this? It isn’t very comfortable.” His reaction captured the surprise of many watching the race as the Kia once again crossed the finish line ahead of the Ferrari.
The Kia EV6 GT is powered by two electric motors that deliver 641 horsepower and 770 Nm of torque. It weighs around 4,883 lbs and has a top speed of 162 mph. On the other hand, the Ferrari Purosangue has a 6.5-liter V12 engine producing 725 horsepower and 716 Nm of torque. It is slightly lighter at 4,850 lbs and can reach a top speed of 193 mph.
On paper, Ferrari’s numbers are stronger, but the EV6 GT’s ability to deliver power instantly gave it an edge in real-world racing. In launch mode, the Kia accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. The Ferrari is slightly quicker with 3.3 seconds, but during the races, it could not match Kia’s explosive start.
Over a quarter-mile, the EV6 GT ran the distance in 11.4 seconds, narrowly beating the Purosangue, which clocked 11.5 seconds. Even when the Kia switched to manual mode, limiting its power delivery, it recorded 12.1 seconds, still staying competitive with the Ferrari.
The race wasn’t all one-sided. The Purosangue managed to win during a rolling race over half a mile and in a sudden braking test. Its ceramic brakes performed better than Kia’s, especially after repeated high-speed runs. However, the Kia dominated in most acceleration tests, leaving a strong impression.
The Ferrari Purosangue costs nearly six times more than the Kia EV6 GT, making Kia’s victory feel even more significant. Carwow’s Mat Watson described the race as “a symbolic moment for electric vehicles.” He added, “This shows that EVs are not just eco-friendly—they’re serious contenders in the performance world.”
Electric vehicles have a clear advantage when it comes to acceleration because they deliver full torque instantly. Traditional combustion engines need time to build revs, which often causes a delay in power delivery. This technical difference allowed the EV6 GT to pull ahead in almost every race.
