The information comes from the renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, and he states that the updated model will likely be released within the second quarter of 2022 or the first quarter of 2023. This spans between October 2022 and March 2023.
Kuo doesn’t say what version of the HomePod it will be. Larger HomePod or the smaller model. Apple stopped producing the larger version for its Smart Speaker in the middle of March, and we’re now thinking that we’ll get the brand-new HomePod smaller. But, there’s always the chance that Apple could bring back its original HomePod with a fresh design.
Apple would release a new version of HomePod in 4Q22-1Q23, and there may not be much innovation in hardware design. Smart speakers are undoubtedly one of the essential elements of the home ecosystem, but I think Apple is still figuring out how to succeed in this market.May 20, 2022
Kuo doesn’t reveal many details about what the new HomePod will offer; however, he does say “there may not be much innovation in hardware design.” This means that the new HomePod is likely to be similar to the HomePod we’ve had before at Apple.
It’s not surprising considering that there aren’t many ways to make an intelligent speaker, and the current HomePod model is a great match. But, we’ve heard that Apple could be exploring the possibility of having a HomePod with a display.
Amazon and Google are already equipped with smart speakers with integrated screens. Of course, it’s possible that Apple isn’t prepared to go up to 2022 or perhaps 2023. When we get any official news about this, we’ll provide you with the latest information via TechRadar.
The analysis: Apple needs a better smart speaker
In Ming-Chi’s, Kuo himself explains, Smart speakers are regarded as “one of the essential elements of the home ecosystem” This means that Apple has to be able to offer a HomePod or two available for sale. Kuo says that Apple is “figuring out” how to enable smart home devices to function.
We’d have to agree with that statement. We’re sure that the list of things we’d love to have on the HomePod 2 is quite long. We’re hoping for Bluetooth connectivity and the ability to connect to additional song services, and more efficient use of Siri.
Siri has been way in the background of Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant in the realm of intelligent digital assistants. It’s not as robust or effective as the other options. It’s also significantly more comfortable with using the Apple services, but not any other way.
It’s the same with the case of intelligent homes generally. Alexa or Google devices work with a lot more devices than Apple HomeKit does. That’s a problem Apple must overcome to stay ahead of this game.
