Hyundai has introduced its latest all-electric SUV, the IONIQ 9. This new addition to Hyundai’s electric vehicle lineup promises superior space, unique design, and advanced EV technology, setting new standards in the electric vehicle market.
At the core of the IONIQ 9 is Hyundai Motor’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), known for its innovative design and technological advancements. This platform features an enhanced power electric (PE) system with an optimized gear ratio for better hill climbing and a two-stage inverter for improved efficiency. A high-capacity, high-voltage NCM lithium-ion battery, floor-mounted for stability, offers 110.3 kWh of system energy, providing an extended electric range.
The IONIQ 9 is expected to achieve an impressive WLTP-estimated all-electric range of 385 miles (620 km) and a targeted energy consumption of 194 Wh/km for the Long-Range RWD model with 19-inch wheels. This is made possible by the vehicle’s low drag coefficient, advanced platform, and battery technologies. Hyundai also claims that the IONIQ 9 can charge from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes using a 350 kW charger. The vehicle’s 400V/800V multi-charging capability and vehicle-to-load (V2L) convenience feature further lower the barriers to EV adoption.
The IONIQ 9 offers three configurations: Long-Range RWD, Long-Range AWD, and Performance AWD. The Long-Range RWD model is powered by a 160 kW rear motor, while the Long-Range AWD adds a 70 kW front motor. The Performance AWD model features 160 kW motors at both the front and rear, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds. The Long-Range AWD variant takes 6.7 seconds, and the Long-Range RWD version takes 9.4 seconds. Hyundai highlights that the performance model can accelerate from 80 to 120 km/h in 3.4 seconds, making it ideal for overtaking other vehicles.

Hyundai has incorporated significant advancements to address common EV customer concerns. The IONIQ 9 features a refined EV Route Planner, improved battery consistency, an enhanced torque control display, and a comprehensive energy report feature. These smart improvements are designed to enhance the overall EV experience and provide customers with peace of mind.
Jaehoon Chang, CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, emphasized the company’s dedication to electrification with the launch of the IONIQ 9. “IONIQ 9 embodies Hyundai Motor’s unwavering commitment and confidence in electrification. Based on Hyundai Motor Group’s acclaimed Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), IONIQ 9 offers outstanding interior space, providing customers with unique value while solidifying our leadership in the global EV market,” said Chang.
The IONIQ 9 boasts a spacious and luxurious interior, thanks to its 123.2-inch (3,130 mm) wheelbase. The cabin is designed with eco-friendly materials, including recycled PET fabric, wool fabric, and eco-process leather. The model comes with Hyundai AI Assistant, an AI-enabled voice recognition system similar to a home virtual assistant. This system, activated by a button, features dotted indicators for easy use.
The vehicle’s dashboard houses a single curved screen that integrates a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch infotainment display. Standard features include eight speakers, with an optional 14-speaker array from Bose. Several 100-watt high-output USB-C ports receive power directly from the 110.3 kWh pack rather than the 12-volt battery.
Hyundai’s latest suite of safety features is standard in the IONIQ 9. This includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, and High Beam Assist. The SUV is also fitted with 10 airbags.
The IONIQ 9 will first launch in Korea and the United States in the first half of 2025, with European and other markets to follow later in the year. Market-specific specifications and pricing will be announced closer to the launch date.
