Sunbreak is an end-game expansion, meaning you’ll need to finish Rise first
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, the new expansion for the latest Monster Hunter game, is out now. But what are the requirements to jump in and start hunting new beasts? How do you get to the new locales? How do you travel to the new Elgado outpost?
In this guide, we’re going to break down everything you need to do before you can start in on the new content in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.
STEP 1: BEAT NARWA AND THE MONSTER HUNTER RISE CAMPAIGN
Getting into Sunbreak is simple, albeit time consuming.
In order to unlock the new expansion content, you need to complete the Serpent Goddess of Thunder Urgent Quest, which comes at the end of High Rank 7. In this quest, you’ll take down Narwa in a special boss fight at the Coral Palace. It’s worth noting that this is the first confrontation with Narwa that ended the original Monster Hunter Rise game, not the final battle between both Narwa and Ibushi added in a later patch.
Monster Hunter Rise is a long game, which makes getting to Sunbreak from scratch quite time consuming. But if you’re trying to rush through Rise as quickly as possibly (or starting over on PC after playing on Switch), there are a few ways you can speed things up:
- Only progress Hub Quests: Ignore all the Village Quests and special requests in the Rise campaign, as they won’t get you any closer to Sunbreak.
- Build your weapons from the Defender Weapon Tree: These weapons don’t look very attractive, but they’re cheap and more powerful than any of the other weapons in their tier. They’re specifically built to help trivialize many of Rise’s battles.
- Fight the easier monsters: When you can choose what beasts you’re fighting, some will be harder than others (either objectively or based on your personal preferences). Even if it’s a little boring, pick the monsters you know best to minimize any learning curves.
Once you’ve completed Rise, you’ll be able to start your journey into Sunbreak and Elgado outpost.
STEP 2: START THE SUNBREAK QUEST IN KAMURA
When the final cutscene for Rise plays, you’ll get a popup on your screen about Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak (if you’ve installed the DLC already). The quest NPC you’re looking for is at the entrance to Kamura village. When you’re ready to embark, talk to her.
The opening hour or so of Sunbreak is segmented off, and you’ll lose access to Kamura while the game is introducing you to the Elgado outpost and some of the new features. But eventually you’ll gain the ability to travel between both areas instantly.
