The spotlight is focused on Apple since the company just announced its next major iPhone software upgrade, iOS 16. However, Apple isn’t alone. That has new software to showcase the world since Google has quietly launched its June feature Drop with its Pixel phones. It has some impressive changes of its own.
The main change is the improvements Google has made to its At a Glance widget, which allows essential information to be viewed at any time, from your home or the lock screen.
The new version adds additional options for information displayed on the lock screen, including a live stream from the Nest doorbell, Air-quality alerts, and a reminder to ensure that your flashlight is turned on.
However, this isn’t all that the update offers. It lets you create a shortcut for the screen-shotted vaccination card to your main screen to bring the proof that you’ve been vaccinated with just a click.
The Google Live Translate feature now supports Traditional Chinese, Korean, Dutch, Turkish, and Thai. There are also new wallpapers to choose from. The update is available with a Pocket Operator application, allowing users to edit and even sound effects to the videos you’ve made.
Additionally, there’s the usual assortment of security and bug fix updates and security updates, so even if new features aren’t your cup of tea, it’s worth downloading. The update is already rolling out; however, it’s not readily available to everyone. Keep on the lookout to receive an email alert from your smartphone.
Analysis: lock screens are getting upgrades on both iOS and Android
One of the significant new features in iOS 16 is the ability to customize the lock screen entirely and even add the widgets you want to add. This is a significant shift, but Pixel users will now get several new widget-like features through an At a Glance update thanks to this feature, Drop.
The new features are a follow-up to a similar recently released At a Glance update which included earthquake alerts and information about the connected Bluetooth device to lock screens. So, there’s plenty you can observe without locking your phone.
These features are available only to Pixel owners, not the entire Android world. IOS 16 will allow users to add a more excellent selection of features on their lock screen.
It’s not equivalent to what Apple is doing; however, on the other hand, it’s already available, whereas iOS 16 probably won’t be available in its final form until the end of September.
