Google’s new Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones will be officially revealed at a “Made by Google” event on Oct. 6. Thanks to a leaked specs comparison from a mobile carrier in Taiwan (via 9to5Google), we now know most of the new phones’ key features.

Before we begin, it’s worth noting that the spec sheet images were shared on Telegram and have apparently been taken down from the website on which they originated, so it’s hard to confirm their authenticity. Still, the specs are in line with what is expected from Google’s new phones, with a few surprises.

According to industry insider Roland Quandt(opens in new tab), Google is poised to be pretty aggressive with its Pixel 7 preorder gifts. The leaker claims a Google Pixel 7 preorder will come with the Pixel Buds Pro while a Google Pixel 7 Pro preorder will include an even more appealing freebie, the Pixel Watch.

A preorder extra of this quality would indicate Google’s desire to sway buyers to upgrade to its latest handset over the likes of the iPhone 14 or Samsung Galaxy S22.

Quandt has indicated that these preorder gifts will be available in the U.K. but that doesn’t rule out the possibility that buyers in the U.S. and other territories will also get the same freebies when preordering a Pixel 7.

While nothing is confirmed yet, we expect Google to offer worthwhile preorder incentives in multiple markets, as it has done with previous generations of Pixel devices.

Besides a Gift, A Google Pixel 7 has a fresh, slick design

I liked the look of the Pixel 6 series. The camera bar across the back gave the phones a unique look that set them apart nicely from the swathes of plain-looking handsets we tend to see these days. I even enjoyed the subtle orange tones of the “sorta sunny” color scheme. So I was pleased when I saw the early images from Google that it hasn’t messed with a good thing too much.

The camera bar is there, but it’s been transformed from a black glassy slab into a sleek-looking recycled aluminum strip that merges seamlessly with the aluminum surround.

We’re expecting similar sizes as before too; 6.4 inches for the Pixel 7 and 6.7 inches for the 7 Pro. It’s not a big design shift, sure, but the Pixel 6 was already a huge departure from the Pixel 5 that went before it. And Google really doesn’t need to overhaul the design just yet. Based on the images, the subtle tweaks and use of aluminum have resulted in a great-looking bit of kit that I’m looking forward to getting in my hand.
