Casio’s new G-Shock watch offers a sleek twist on the timeless style.
The GMWB5000MB-1 comes with a complete metal case and back that have been presented with various designs using a variety of polishing and finishing methods.
As with other Casio G-Shock models, this one can be decorated with ion-plating, however, with an added twist. The stainless steel components and the body are coated with fine abrasives that polish the surface (a method known as honing), followed by ion-plating in black.
The body and the watch’s bracelet are with a black matte finish; the watch’s bezel has been polished to a hairline look that reveals the silver-toned steel beneath. The buttons and screws have polished mirrors that are bright to appear more prominent, while the face has the classic brick pattern that was the first G-Shock watch in shades of gray and black.
The G-Shock GMWB5000MB-1features the iconic square-shaped case inspired by the DW-5000C model in 1983. It measures 49.3 millimeters by 43.2 millimeters x 13.0 millimeters.
Its appearance on the outside defines the matte finish. The latest process achieves the exterior appearance, which utilizes the “honing” method, which can be employed to smooth the surface of stainless steel using very fine abrasive (similar to sandblasting, but less harsh). After the black ion-plating has been applied to the bezel and case, the bezel is given a straight-grained “hairline” finish that reveals the silver hue of the stainless steel underneath. The buttons and screws finish the appearance with a glossy polished finish that softly emphasizes the matte surface.
Premium G-Shock features on the solar-powered quartz unit 3459 include Bluetooth function multi-band 5. Atomic timekeeping LED illumination and a countdown timer. There are five alarms per day, a fully auto-calendar global time (39 cities), and many other features.
The GMWB5000MB-1 stainless steel bracelet weighs 167 grams when combined with the bracelet. It is shock-resistant and has an apex rating of 200 meters. It is priced at 600 dollars and is available for pre-order from March 30th, 2022, and the delivery is expected to begin at the beginning of April 2022.
