It’s not known how the spread of this false alarm is. (File) iPhone’s AirTags have sent “phantom” notifications that can confuse iPhone users, an earlier Wall Street Journal report.
Airtags were first introduced in the year 2000. iPhone AirTags have anti-stalking capabilities that alert users whenever the unidentified AirTag is located within their personal belongings for an extended duration to prevent AirTags from their use for monitoring users without their permission.
The report stated that false alerts typically were detected in the late-night hours and began to pop up over the last couple of days. When receiving an unidentified iPhone AirTag alert, users are expected to look up a map which shows the exact place and the time the AirTag was located. False alarms are typically accompanied by maps showing straight lines radiating out of the location in the home.
It is unclear how widespread these false alarms are. There are other false alarms that people might be faced with. Some users could also see their AirTags following them by testing the safety features. They also shared their experience on Reddit and through social networking. Some users have reported AirPods creating confusing alerts due to the airtag, which is an issue Apple has fixed with an update that made it easier to differentiate the different types of alerts triggered by various Apple accessories.
Based on this Wall Street Journal report, users complained they were anxious, especially if they could not find an AirTag that had their home.
After several reports of stalkers over the last calendar year, Apple made a statement in February that it would make sure that AirTags with unidentified tags warn users earlier and emphasize louder and more pronounced sounds. Apple has issued the AirTags update to fix the problem.
In a similar year, it was announced that the firm based in Cupertino opposed the illegal misuse of AirTag and told that it was cooperating with authorities in law enforcement to fulfil all requests regarding AirTag. Apple has also announced that it will immediately send out warnings to iPhones every time an AirTag issues an audio alert in the very first instance.
