1,500 Chinese workers have successfully constructed a new railway line in just nine hours. The project, executed in Longyan, Fujian Province, has connected three major railways to the newly built Nanlong Railway, significantly enhancing the region’s transportation infrastructure.
The construction began at 6:30 p.m. on January 19, 2018, and was completed by 3 a.m. the following day. Workers were divided into seven units, each tasked with different responsibilities to ensure the swift completion of the project. According to Zhan Daosong, a deputy manager at China Tiesiju Civil Engineering Group, this division of labor was key to the rapid progress.
Seven trains and 23 excavators were utilized to assist in this monumental task. The workers not only laid new tracks but also removed old ones and installed railroad switches at the station.
The newly constructed railway line links Longyan with Nanping, a city in the mountainous western part of Fujian Province. This line integrates three major railways—Ganlong Railway, Ganruilong Railway, and Zhanglong Railway—with the new Nanlong Railway.
An aerial video released by Pear showcased the impressive coordination and speed with which the construction was carried out. The workers also installed traffic signals and a series of traffic monitoring equipment to ensure the new railway’s operational efficiency.

The Nanping-Longyan railway, measuring 246 kilometres (152 miles) in length, is designed for a maximum speed of 200 kilometres per hour (124 mph). This high-speed rail line will reduce travel time between Nanping and Longyan from seven hours to just 90 minutes.
The new railway will include stops in Shaxian, Sanming, Yong’an, and Zhangping, further integrating the less developed parts of Fujian with major Chinese cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangdong. Once operational, this railway is expected to significantly boost the region’s economic connectivity and development.

Although the initial phase of the construction has been completed, the overall construction of the Nanlong Railway is ongoing and is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2018. The project was part of a broader plan to improve the local transportation system and enhance connectivity in southeastern China.
This rapid construction project demonstrates China’s capability to execute large-scale infrastructure projects swiftly and efficiently. The use of advanced machinery and well-coordinated labor units was crucial in achieving this feat.
